Current Quilting Projects

by

Today’s topic of discussion is one that is a little more on the lighter side. Nothing to really think about (maybe), nothing to learn, nothing to do but read, and, hopefully, just a little something to keep you kick-started with whatever quilting projects you may be working on at this time.
So, out of idle curiosity, I suddenly find myself wondering what types of projects you have in process right now, as well as, how many. Now, I am not referring to UFOs (UnFinished Objects you’ve let go for awhile); I am referring to WIPs (Works In Progress) that you have been actively working on within the past two (2) to three (3) months.
Ready to confess? Let me go first!

  1. Rose Stained Glass Wallhanging (for my mother for Mother’s Day; my own design),
  2. A sampler called “Surpassing Life’s Challenges“,
  3. A commissioned quilt that I am designing and is made from antique handkerchiefs,
  4. A charity quilt that I designed as a Mystery Quilt (it just needs bound and labeled),
  5. 2 photo memory quilts that I am making for each of my sons.

Those weren’t given in any specific order (and I think I remembered them all), however the one I am making for mom does have a deadline of Mother’s Day. The commissioned quilt is second on my list to finish (would like to have it finished by the end of May), followed by the charity quilt (which would take me about 2-3 hours to finish, as I hem the binding by hand). The sampler is a BOM (Block of the Month) quilt and so there is no hurry for it and the memory quilts are to be Christmas gifts, so I should have plenty of time for those.
Sounds like I am doing fairly well on my quilting projects, does it not? Not too many irons in the fire, right? Well, remember the title of this topic? The operative word is “CURRENT”! Perhaps one day soon I will address the topic of unfinished projects that need a little (or a lot) of attention.
Now that I have confessed, let me hear about what you are currently working on?
And please, do not let these current WIPs become UFOs!!!!!

As far as current WIPS, I have the following:
    * “Surpassing Life’s Challenges” BOM
    * Comfort quilt for friend (just needs binding at this point)
    * Baby quilt for overseas friend
    * Row of blocks for block swap with friends at Quilting Passion

  2. Valerie Says:

I didn’t mention any of the planned projects that I have materials for, but just haven’t begun yet.
    * King quilt for friends, hope to have finished by June
    * 3 charity quilts, made from blocks donated by friends at Quilting Passion
    * Throw quilt for ME!! Have had the materials for 5+ years LOL.

Don’t even get me started on planned projects… I have way too many! LOL

  4. Wendi Says:

This year I vowed to work AND finish some items that have been on my “need to do” list for some time. So far the WIP’s are:
    1. Flannel & Homespun quilt for DH that is
currently at a longarm quilter’s. Just
    need to bind and label.
    2. Old fashioned 30’s type quilt for my DGD
ready to be bordered and sent out for
    quilting.
    3. Handbag I plan to finish this week.

Of course, I have many “to do’s” waiting to go onto this list. As I finish one of these, I hope to replace it with another off this list.

    In between these personal projects, I usually have a charity project going too. I don’t count those in my WIP’s..:}

  5. Sequana Says:

I’m right in the middle of a fabulous project with the new “X-Blocks” ruler. What a find that is!

Plus a final project for my bead class at Quilt University AND weekly embroidery stitches put up by SharonB for Take A Stitch Tuesday. *S* I’m such a sucker for classes and stuff.

I’m also gathering up wooden embroidery hoops to use as a decorating item. I’ll stretch different fabrics in them and hang them on a wall in my workroom - just to enjoy. I can switch them out anytime I need one for a project, or get something new I can’t stand not to look at.

  6. Valerie Says:

Sequana, that is a great idea for decorating!! I wish I had thought of that… and I just might copy you and do it myself. :)

  7. Bee Says:

My current project is a row-by-row round robin. While my fabrics are making their way around the country to have other ladies work with them, I take the fabrics in the box I recieve each month and make a row of Indian Stars, then send it on to the next person. We are almost halfway through the nine month long project.

  8. Terry Crawford Says:

Bee, what a wonderful project idea! I hope you share your finished quilt with us when you end the project!!!
