The gist of the concept of paying it forward regarding quilting blogs is simple, however I would like to change this one up just a little. You read someone’s blog (like this one!), post a comment, then the author of the blog that you posted in then turns around and posts in someone else’s quilting blog (sample blogs given below). This simple concept keeps the blogging lists active. In fact, it is recommended that you post in more than one blog.
Now, you may be wondering how to find other quilting blogs to read. Well, I am going to begin posting my recommendations for quilting blogs at the bottom of each article that I write, starting today! If you have a quilting blog and it is not listed below, you may submit it to me and I will review it for possible inclusion in my blog list.
Just a few minutes out of your day and you can glean a lot of useful information!

I can hardly believe it is Thursday! I have thought all day that it was Tuesday!
There are so many thoughts running around in my head that if I listed all of them, it would do nothing but confuse you! So, here are a few thoughts and some random tidbits for you to ponder upon.
Here is what I have in the works. First, I have a charity quilt ready to bind, that Wilma (NC) has graciously volunteered to bind for me. Second, I have a commisioned quilt to begin. Third, I have an order of labels to fill. And fourth, I have an order of fabric noodles to fill! The first, third, and fourth need to happen within the next week.
Now for a few interesting tidbits!

Are you a fan of Eleanor Burns? Read a little about how her “Quilt In A Day” is growing, piece by piece!

Mary Emma Allen also shares some information regarding Eleanor Burns and her books!

Painting barns with quilts is becoming increasingly popular! For an interesting read, check out the The Country Barn Quilt Trail in Kendall, NY.

Need an essential guide about what types of fabric make for good quilting? Wade Robins shares some information!

Do you like reading quilt blogs (like this one!)? If so, a unique idea is to “Pay It Forward“!

Hope each of you have a wonderful day. Be sure to pay it forward!

Well, folks, I am getting back on my feet and recovering nicely, so it is time to begin writing once again! I have really missed this and hope you have, too.
Today I have a gorgeous little project for you! The quilt pattern is called, “Twinkle Twinkle” and is provided by Quilting Passion and was designed by me a few years ago. Talk about quick and simple, then throw in a surprising result and you have the perfect project for last minute quilt.
There are already a couple of sample quilts made from this pattern shown at the bottom of the pattern page and I also just received another photo a day or so ago that will be uploading sometime this coming weekend.
Please take a look and see if it may be something you are interested in!

The June 2007 Desktop Wallpaper Calendar is purple, blue, and green, in honor of the month of June. There are two (2) different versions of it; one with the seasonal graphics overlaying it and one without. It is available online, compliments of Quilting Passion.

The blocks selected for this month’s calendar are called, “Bird With Tail Feathers” and “Nosegay Wreath“, both created using EQ5. This challenge, called the “Birds and Nosegay Challenge“, is born from this desktop wallpaper calendar! Make either one or both of the spotlighted patterns for this calendar, mail in the unfinished block(s) (please send a digital photo first, if possible), and it will give you an entry in the contest (one entry is given per block sent in). The winner wins all of the blocks submitted, unless there are more than 16. If more than 16 entries are received, then the blocks will be split so that 1st place receives 2/3 of the blocks. In the event that more than 30 blocks are received, then there will be three (3) winners selected. Blocks will be voted on anonymously via the Quilting Passion Forum.
Please have your block submissions mailed in to me by June 27th. Voting will commence on or about the 29th and the winning results published the second week of July.
     Guidelines:

Please use good quality, 100% cotton fabric.

Please make sure that the unfinished block measures precisely 8.5″ x 8.5″.

Please have your block submissions mailed in to me by June 27th.

Blocks can be embellished as you wish. Feel free to use trims, buttons, etc. in this block. Make sure that all embellishments can survive being washed, and if they can’t, make sure that they are easily removed (buttons, etc. can be attached with a small safety pin).

I am looking forward to seeing your birds and nosegays!

How did you get started quilting? Did any one particular person influence you? Did any one book or magazine have an impact on your quilting?
I am sure that there are many stories to be told as to how each of you got started in your quilting life! With that said, beginning in 2007, Quilting Passion begins hosting a yearly “Quilter’s Hall of Fame“, held in June. This year, it is being held in conjunction with Quilting By Design.
Do you have a story to tell? If so, please leave your comment/story via the link below (Comments) from June 5th through the 11th. Each comment that is entered is considered to be a “nomination” and the submitter is the “nominator“. Quilting celebrities, books, magazines, Web sites, etc. that are credited as to influencing a nominator’s quilting life will be considered “nominees“. Once all of the comments are received, an anonymous vote will be taken (beginning around the 12th) on the Quilting Passion Forum as to the best comments and the top three (3) nominators with the highest votes will become the top winners. Additionally, the results from all of the comments will be tallied and the top nominees will also be published. Prizes (to be announced later) will be awarded to the (nominator) winners and the results published on June 26th.
Questions? Please feel free to contact me! I look forward to seeing all of the nominations as to who you believe should be voted into the first annual QP/QBD Hall of Fame!

Well, Sunday started like any other day; rushed and hectic. I had an interview and review slated for Monday, however, the information I needed from my resource is still not here (and it’s 9 pm). So, I reluctantly decided that I needed to whip up a quickie project as a filler and this is it!
All of the necessary supplies for this project include: Basic sewing tools, a photo printed on fabric, 1.5″ strips of a contrasting fabric to “frame” the photo, a piece of backing fabric (large enough to accomodate the photo with frame), a piece of insulated batting (about the same size as the backing fabric), 2.5″ strips of a contrasting fabric to be used as the binding, and approximately 4-6″ of rick-rack trim.

Begin sewing the 1.5″ strips to the top and bottom of the potholder, then sew the side strips on. Be sure to press after sewing each strip on, away from the photo.

Layer the potholder, placing the backing right side down (facing the counter or flat surface you are working on) down first, followed by the insulated batting, and finally, the photo top piece.

Using a decorative stitch, quilt the layers together. It is best to begin quilting within the photo first. For instance, I quilted around the three sides of the “photo frame” in the picture that are on the left, right, and top. This anchors the center of the potholder. It is not a good idea to quilt over faces.
At this point, it is time to use the 2.5″ strips to attach the binding. You would be sure to fold the rick-rack and sew it when you sew on the binding, too. After you are finished, either sign or label the back.

”What?”, you say? “Where is the finished photo?” Well, to make a long story short, absolutely nothing went as planned in this project because I was in a hurry and my heart was not in it. I actually made quite a few of these for Christmas gifts last year and gave them to all of my aunts. They were the hit of our reunion! However, you can tell from the final photo shown on the right exactly how frustrating tonight’s project has been for me! I printed off the photo four (4) times before I got a good print! Then, I ruined the first one I began when my thread really, really messed up during the decorative quilting stage (actually, just a couple of minutes after the photo above of me sewing the stitch!). So, I began another one, using my second best printed photo and it turned out worse than the first. What a major fiasco!
Someday, I will tackle this again, when I want to… and not when I need to come up with something at the last minute! I will provide you with accurate instructions and good photographs, and above all, the finished project! Ironically, I have searched my laptop over and cannot find the photographs of the ones I have already made. I am sure I will run across them when I no longer have a need for them!
It was just not a good day for me to sew. I promise, I really can sew and quilt. Just not today!!! Do you ever do this?????
