How wonderful to see your pictures! I purchased some lovely fabric at a sale earlier this month and plan to make my very first quilt ever! If it turns out even remotely attractive, I’m going to give it to my older brother for Christmas. I intend to make it out of rectangles and keep it very simple (full-size), but if you have any advice for keeping it even more simple and *quick* (I have very little patience), I’d love to hear it!

    Thanks,

    HI
If you’re looking for an easy to make patchwork, look into Log Cabin patterns. They are made as you go, look really nice and are very forgiving.
If you can get a rotaty cutter and a cutting mat, so much the better- those 2 tools will make your life so much easier tahn usisng scissors to cut everything.
As for the quilting itself, here’s a few observations:
Use good quality batting . Center the top over the middle of the batting and teh backing fabric, making sure there is backing and batting margin of at least 3 inches on each side of the patchwork.
The batting pacage will tell you how closely you have to quilt to keep the batting from pillowing in the seams or comming apart.
Tied quilts where you don’t sew the front to the back but rather tie it together at intervals is faster than traditional quilting. It’s a more casual, rugged effect too.
