QuiltersBuzz Hall Of Fame Winners!

QuiltersBuzz Home Page
The nominations are in and the winners are…
First, I would like to make it clear that this Hall of Fame article is centered around the QuiltersBuzz Hall of Fame, which is quite different from the Quilter’s Hall of Fame.
Nominations opened on May 17th for this event, in which comments were taken regarding individuals that strongly influenced quilting in lives. Those making the comments had their names entered into a drawing to win free patterns from the Threaded Pear Studio. Three (3) winners were chosen, however, if you read the comments, you will quickly see that everyone participating was truly a winner!
Nominations in the QuiltersBuzz Hall of Fame included mothers, aunts, grandmothers, great grandmothers, and great great grandmothers, friends, daughters, and even the ex-wife of a husband! Also nominated were the Amish, Gwen, Nancy, Jo, Alex, Eleanor, Amy, Heather, Anna Maria, Denyse, Kaffe, Georgia, God, and others. Commentators were inspired by TV shows, DVDs, books, magazines, retreats, computers and the Internet.
Not only are the winner’s comments a good read, but all of the rest of the comments are, as well!
Who would you have nominated and why? Also, what (if anything) has inspired you to pursue quilting? Please post your comments here and share your stories of who and/or what most influenced your quilting life!

  1. Valerie Says:

My aunt, who happens to be the current president of the Wisconsin Quilter’s Guild (http://www.wisconsinquilters.com/), made a quilt for me as a college graduation gift. It is beautiful, and seeing it made me want to make quilts too. Granted, it was 3 years after receiving it before I made my first quilt, but since this quilt was on my guest bed and I saw it every day, it continued to inspire me.
    ..
I am also inspired by the quilts showcased in Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine. I have a subscription with them starting in 1999, and I don’t plan to ever stop my subscription. :)
    ..
And lastly, I continue to be inspired by my client quilts. I see so many new uses of color and design, ways to combine colors and shapes that I would never have thought of myself. I am thankful for the oppotunity to learn from my peers.

  2. Terry Crawford Says:

Great comments, Val! I especially liked the one regarding you learning from your peers.

I would have to say that the person that got me started in quilting would be my mom. To read the brief story on how that came about, simply click on the author name “Terry-Crawford” in the right box, entitled, “About Quilting By Design”, on this screen.

As for magazines, my favorite has and will probably always be Quiltmaker.

As for famous people who have influenced me, I’d have to say Eleanor Burns (because she’s so easy to understand!), Alex Anderson (she inspires me), and Marti Michell.

And finally, the “famous” people that keep me going now are the members of the Quilting Passion Forum… these are the peers that I learn from and keep learning from. I look there for my inspiration, my creativity, my motivation, and a lot more.

    Totally off-topic:

In case some of you wonder how you can get the line spacing between paragraphs, it’s easy. All you have to do is type on a line by itself,

So just stick that little piece of HTML code between your paragraphs on a separate line and you’ll get a line break!

  4. Terry Crawford Says:

LOL! OK, let’s try that again. I wasn’t thinking, was I? When I gave you the code in paragraph 2 above, it didn’t print it, it gave me a line break. DUH.

So, I’m going to give it to you with spaces: < p >

Now, when you use that, don’t put the space before or after the “p”. It’s basically a less than symbol, the letter “p” (no quotes), and the greater than symbol.

Now, let’s see if this clarifies it!

  5. Valerie Says:

Thanks for the info on how to make paragraphs here! Now why didn’t I think of that? I’m usually kinda smart when it comes to computers. :)
Let’s see if that worked LOL.
How could I forget learning from my peers at Quilting Passion? I’ve learned so much from seeing pictures of everyone’s quilts, from asking questions, from taking QPU classes (like Kimberly’s hand-dye class). It is so nice to have a group with such diverse talents!

  6. Valerie Says:

Darn! I used the (without spaces) and it didn’t give me a new paragraph! Oops, I see my problem. I didn’t put it on its own line. Let’s try it again…

Foo bar. Foo bar. Foo bar.

    Did that work?? :)

  7. Terry Crawford Says:

    Woo hoo! It worked!

    :)
